Your 485 document checklist.
Know what to gather before you begin. Keep your documents together, then upload them securely as you work through your case.
You do not need every document to start. The questionnaire shows what is needed for your case before you can send it for review. If something is missing, save your progress and return later.
Your identity
For you and each family member included in your case.
Current passport
A clear copy of the page showing your photograph, personal details, passport number and expiry date.
Birth certificate or other identity evidence
Include documents showing your full name and date of birth. Explain if a birth certificate is unavailable.
Other names and identity cards
If applicable, include name-change or marriage documents and both sides of your national identity card.
Your Australian study
For graduates preparing a case based on their Australian qualification.
Course completion letter
Ask your education provider for a letter confirming your qualification and when you completed the course requirements.
Academic transcript
Include the transcript for the qualification you want the agent to assess, plus relevant records if you studied at more than one provider.
Course and visa details
Have your course name, CRICOS code, study dates and Australian visa grant notices nearby when answering the questions.
English, insurance and police checks
The evidence needed depends on your pathway and circumstances.
English-language evidence
Have your test report ready, including the test date, reference and scores. If you want an exemption assessed, provide the evidence supporting your request.
Health insurance
Include your policy or cover letter showing who is insured and the dates of cover.
Australian Federal Police check
Keep your AFP application confirmation, request date and reference, and your certificate if it has arrived. Tell us if you have not applied yet.
Other relevant records
Include overseas police certificates, health examination details or previous immigration decisions where relevant. The agent may request further evidence.

A few things depend on your situation.
Post-Vocational Education Work
Prepare your nominated occupation details and any skills assessment application, receipt or outcome. Include the qualifications you want assessed.
Post-Higher Education Work
Gather evidence of your Australian degree and completion. Your agent will assess the qualification, study history and other relevant requirements.
Second Post-Higher Education Work
Include your previous 485 grant notice and records of regional residence, study and work, such as leases, bills and employment records.
Family members and subsequent entrants
Include the main applicant’s visa or application details and evidence of your relationship. Depending on your circumstances, this may include marriage or birth certificates, evidence of dependency, or parental responsibility and consent documents.
Make every page easy to read.
- Include the whole page, with all corners visible. Avoid glare, shadows and cropped text.
- Include every relevant page and both sides of cards where information appears on the reverse.
- Keep the original-language document together with its English translation. Check the official translation requirements before arranging a translation.
- Check that names, dates and document numbers are readable before uploading. Review any details extracted from your passport.
