Australia Visitor 600 requirements
Prepare the information that explains who you are, why you are visiting Australia and how you will support your stay. This checklist covers the Tourist stream for applications made outside Australia.
Our Visitor 600 service is not open for purchase yet. You can read the requirements and apply directly through Home Affairs.
Check your Australia route
Check that this is the right route
This route covers holidays, cruises and visits to family or friends. You must intend a temporary visit, have enough money for the trip and not work in Australia. You must be outside Australia when applying and when Home Affairs decides the application.
- Check eVisitor 651 or ETA 601 eligibility first. Passport type, intended stay and individual circumstances can change the route.
- Business Visitor, Sponsored Family, Frequent Traveller and applications made inside Australia have different requirements.
- Each traveller, including a child, needs an individual application.
Passport and identity
Have a clear colour copy of the passport page showing your photograph and personal details. Provide other identity and name-change evidence where relevant. Check every name, date and document number against the original.
- National identity card, if you have one.
- Evidence of a name change, if applicable.
- For a child, birth and parental responsibility documents and any consent required for their travel.
Your visit and the money available
Explain your purpose, intended dates, accommodation and activities. Show that you have access to enough money for your stay and departure. Relevant evidence can include bank statements, income or confirmed financial support.
- An itinerary or explanation of your plans.
- An invitation explaining the visit and any accommodation or financial support, when visiting someone.
- Evidence that the person supporting your trip can provide the support offered.
Reasons to return home
Choose evidence that reflects your actual circumstances. Employment, study, family responsibilities and property can help explain why the visit is temporary. Property ownership is not a universal requirement.
- An employer letter or evidence of continuing work.
- Study commitments or family responsibilities.
- Property or other assets, where relevant to your reasons for returning.
Additional evidence and translations
Home Affairs may request health examinations, police certificates, biometrics or further information. The documents depend on your circumstances. Provide the original document and an English translation for documents in another language, following the official translation instructions.
