CBP recommends requesting ESTA before travel. Allow at least 72 hours for the official response and additional time to complete your details, selfie and review. You do not need to wait for a narrow arrival window.
Read the government guidance →Check whether your existing ESTA covers this trip
A valid ESTA is generally usable for multiple trips for two years or until passport expiry, whichever comes first; Brunei passports have a one-year exception. Each permitted stay is normally no more than 90 days. Check the actual authorisation before making a new purchase.
A new passport or changed circumstances can require a new request
A new passport, changed name or citizenship, or changed answers to eligibility questions can require another ESTA. Existing authorisations cannot be extended. Check CBP’s instructions before relying on a previous approval.

Preparation and private payment are separate from government processing. Your account records the actual submission and authorisation outcome.
